We have homework.
From vast challenges like the global environment to more immediate ones like human relationships, our lives are filled with important issues that don't have easy answers.
Some may pick up a book to reconsider how to approach them.
Others launch businesses dedicated to solving these problems, making it their livelihood.
Each of us can confront these challenges in our own way.
Re-examining life(HOME) and work(WORK), we unravel the unfinished tasks (HOMEWORK) left for our society…
HOME/WORK VILLAGE was named under this concept and is a mixed-use facility created by repurposing the former Ikejiri Junior High School.
It's not a complicated facility at all.
It's an open, fun place where many shops gather and various exhibitions and events are held.
Within this space, we hope to create opportunities that might inspire you to engage with your “homework” a little more, drawing on the power of the building that once served as a school.
Please feel free to drop by anytime.
About the Facility
The former Ikejiri Junior High School, which closed in 2004.
Even now, traces of its time as a school and the memories of countless children remain throughout the building.
“HOME/WORK VILLAGE” opened in July 2025 as a facility encompassing not only the school building but also the gymnasium and school grounds.
The first floor of the school building is a lively area featuring restaurants, shops, a shared kitchen, a streaming studio, and a gallery. The second floor a coworking space and a creative learning school for children. The third floor accommodates offices, where diverse people work and learn.
The gymnasium building retains its original function while adding a book lounge for leisurely reading and studios fostering diverse sports communities.
The former schoolyard area has been transformed with planted trees and grass, becoming a town-facing plaza hosting various events.
